The president of Nippon Ichi Software, Haru Akenaga, later apologized for releasing the game, saying, "It was not the kind of title we should release in the United States because of its quality. Bravo Team was yet another military shooter in the vein of Call of Duty , only this one was released with VR capabilities!
Too bad that did absolutely nothing to assuage its general lack of quality. The game was ripped apart upon release for its unfinished quality and repetitive nature, as most critics agreed that it got stale after about ten minutes.
It's games like Bravo Team that are severely holding back the virtual reality boom. Killzone Shadow Fall is yet another underwhelming PlayStation 4 launch title. Shadow Fall had to follow Killzone 2 and 3 , both of which were seen as amazing first-person shooters and some of the best games that the PS3 had to offer.
This was not Killzone. This was a generic FPS masked in an admittedly gorgeous Killzone skin. Do you remember the EyeToy? No, of course you don't, it was terrible. To refresh your memory, the EyeToy was a webcam-like device for the PS2 that used a primitive form of gesture recognition to provide players with a full-body, immersive experience.
It was a decent little toy, but it spawned ugly tie-in games like EyeToy: Operation Spy. This was nothing but a cheap gimmick meant to show off the EyeToy's capabilities, and it barely managed to do that. There's a reason this thing quickly faded into obscurity. Grand Theft Auto really hit its stride sometime around , and a whole host of imitators followed. Gangs of London was a cheap GTA rip-off that was released for the PSP in , and like most rip-offs, it was a pale imitator of the original.
Its gameplay was monotonous and repetitive, it controlled like hot garbage, and absolutely nothing about it was original or unique. Naturally, it was quickly forgotten. It isn't worth ten cents, as it's a broken, unresponsive, utterly reprehensible piece of garbage that should never be played. It has since become a bit of a meme, and rightfully has the reputation as one of the worst video games of all time. These are the twenty worst PlayStation exclusives of all time, and why they suck. By requiring the player to exercise caution and stealthily assassinate targets, Tenchu really re-examined what ninja games should be, and played a part in the growing stealth-action genre.
The game offered a great deal of freedom in terms of carrying out your objectives, but was not for the impatient — observation was key as you tried to identify the perfect time to strike.
Getting it right is still a thrilling experience. Player expectations had changed by the late Nineties though, so Namco shifted its approach to the series to match. Where the original was a loud, colorful game that you played for a good time, not a long time, Ridge Racer Type 4 offered a relaxing contrast with pastel-colored skies and a more relaxed soundtrack.
The excellent drift-heavy racing remained though, and the game had some fun stories, plus more cars and tracks to play with than any of its predecessors. This one dispenses with the high budget 3D spectacle and sci-fi leanings of mainline PlayStation counterparts like Final Fantasy VII and VIII, instead offering up more complex battles featuring 2D characters on isometric 3D stages, with job classes that call back to the more traditional fantasy roots of the series.
As well as these more complex and expansive arenas, the second game in the series introduced some iconic vehicles such as Axel and Mr Slam, as well as a co-op mode that allowed players to tackle the tournament together. The only downside was missing out on the endings, which could only be viewed by solo combatants — they remain memorably, deliciously evil today.
This PlayStation version is an excellent likeness for the arcade classic, but what really puts it over the top is the inclusion of a totally original second scenario set in a hotel, which is exclusive to this version. But what little it does is done very poorly. The physics are way off, you feel more like a bowling ball being dropped from an airplane than a skier, and the mid-air stunts are impossible to pull off thanks to the heavy feel and bad controls. Oh boy, yet another adaptation. The missions are all about running around big, empty levels and killing things, and sometimes you have to run around these levels for hours looking for the one enemy you missed.
Made by the same studio that published Turok 2 , this just feels like a cheap re-skin of that, and Turok 2 was itself mediocre at best. Yes, this is a multiplayer only party game featuring South Park characters, what could go wrong? Just about everything, apparently. This is compounded by the fact that sometimes it can be both and that the questions repeat themselves ad nauseam.
What makes Rascal Racers so bad are the controls and the tracks. You can see the developers going through a checklist as you play, with an ice track, a city, a jungle, and so on.
As the name sort of implies, this is another racing game. The races take place all across the USA, featuring some of the ugliest graphics to ever grace a video game console. The controls are just as abhorrent. By , the Mortal Kombat series was no stranger to action-adventure spin-off games.
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero came out in to mostly negative reviews, but a surprising 7. Mortal Kombat: Special Forces is fundamentally broken on every level. Its got ugly graphics, its story is nonsense, the music what little there is is uninspired, and the gameplay. Oh, the gameplay.
The bulk of the gameplay centers around you having to pick up keys, security passes, or documents to progress, meaning much like Armorines: Project S. The Simpsons Wrestling is just a bad wrestling game. Like many poor fighting games, you can get away with random button mashing and win easily, every time. It was also criticized for its poor graphics. Many critics pointed out that characters would frequently clip through objects, other characters, or even themselves at times.
Remember that Simple Series I mentioned earlier when talking about good quality budget games? Special Forces only featured Jax as the only playable character and aside from Kano, none of Mortal Kombat's popular characters make an appearance. They did not disappoint. Final Fantasy IX returned to a medieval setting, similar to earlier installments.
Fans and critics admire Final Fantasy IX for its beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds, fantasy gameplay, and remarkable character development. Remember those book covers that showed kids turning into animals? Well, there is a video game based on the book series by K. Animorphs: Shattered Reality released on the PlayStation 1 in and was panned by critics. Similar to the novels, the protagonist of the game morphs into an animal but only in times of combat.
The majority of the game revolves around maneuvering the character through various jump obstacles. Animorphs: Shattered Reality was the final game developed by the developer, SingleTrac. A harsh result for a subpar game. PlayStation owners who dreamt of luxurious cars and better driving skills were gifted with Gran Turismo in The game took five years to develop but the final product became the highest-rated racing game of all time and the best-selling PlayStation 1 game.
Gran Turismo is praised for its advanced racing simulation, with beautiful environments and its ability to feel the most realistic racing game at the time. Gran Turismo was one of the first adopters of the DualShock controller, which further advanced gameplay due to the analog sticks and rumble functions.
