Is this a widespread issue? I really liked Live Mail and had a lot of messages saved that I can no longer access. This thread is locked. I am Louie, a Microsoft Community member and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. I hope I can help you on your concern. Its possible the Windows Live Mail got corrupted after the update, please perform the following below in the registry: 1.

The word immediately after the symbol is usually your email provider. Windows 10 : In the search box on the taskbar, type control panel, and then select Control Panel. Windows 8. Windows 7 : Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel. On the Account Settings window, select the account you're trying to troubleshoot and select Change.

On the Change Account window, check the Incoming mail server and Outgoing mail server settings against those from your email provider or the reference article. If it's different, update the settings. Under Logon Information , verify you're using the correct User Name and Password associated with your email account. Note: If your email provider requires two-factor authentication, enter the generated passcode they provided instead of your regular password.

On the Internet Email Settings window, select the Advanced tab. If they don't match, manually change them. Additionally, compare the encryption types next to Use the following type of encrypted connection for both Incoming and Outgoing servers as well and, if they don't match, manually change them. On the Test Account Settings window, check if you have green check marks or red markers:.

Red markers indicate some or all settings are incorrect. Check your settings and test again. If the test fails, contact your email provider to verify the information.

Green check marks indicate a successful test. Your email should be properly configured. Use the dropdown under Account Information to select the account you want to change. Of course, rather than switching to the Mail app or Microsoft Office Outlook you could switch to an alternative from a third-party supplier.

Examples include Mailbird , eM Client , and Thunderbird. It is not clear if you still know your password, but you will need it to set up a new mail program. Fortunately, some free utilities can extract passwords from Windows Live Mail.

The alternative is to ask for a password reset so that you can enter a new password. You can do this via a Microsoft page: Forgotten password and other sign-in problems , or use the password reset wizard at account. Password resets require authentication, so Microsoft will send a security code to the alternative email address listed in your email account, or send an SMS to the mobile phone number listed.

Once upon a time, you could open an email account without providing an alternative email address or phone number, but most email providers now require one or another. If you have not provided an alternative, you can use the Recover your Microsoft account page, which allows you to supply a new contact email address. Microsoft started rolling out the new system last year, in preview mode. Once your account is converted, you will no longer be able to use it with Windows Live Mail.

It would therefore be a good idea to switch in the next week or two. Have you got another question for Jack? Email it to Ask.
